With the recent release of UCS 5.0 for Polycom VVX Phones automatic firmware updates are now supported directly from the Lync Device Update service.
In LPE it is not possible to control the update behavior in this manner and it is all automatic.
Note that this article is quite lengthy as the entire process is described in detail, accompanied by various log entries and other examples.
There is good information on this site about setting up a Polycom phone to work with Asterisk, but it's rather spread out and unorganized, so I thought I'd take some time to get it all in one place.
These instructions apply to the 501 models, but I believe they would adapt well to other Polycom models.
If a new update is available LPE devices will wait for a certain period of inactivity on the phone and then automatically download, waiting again for more idle time before rebooting itself to complete the process.
VVX devices operate in the same way but also offer two important improvements: (1) the inactivity timeout is configurable and (2) when a new update is available the device will prompt the user to install it immediately if desired, or defer if not.Following values for ring tones are supported since version 3.0.0 of the module : The Polycom Phone Support module 5.0.0 (or higher) and Polycom VVX300/310/400/410/500/600 resource version 5.1.0 (or higher) provides a convenient graphical way to allow a user to change his intentional status. To activate this feature, the administrator should change the following settings in the resource: Additionally, the user can also use this interface to manage his call forwarding.Polycom has just released new SIP firmware version 3.1.2, and it can be found here. This release is identical to the SIP 3.1.2 release with the addition of software and configuration parameters applicable to the VVX 1500 phone. For this, Polycom Phone Support Module 5.1.0 (or higher) and Fusion 3.x.x is required.
